Expedition SELMA
a dogsled journey
Twelve dogs, that became thirteen, a musher and a skier on a journey in north western Spitsbergen. While snow started melting around Longyearbyen, the snowy mountains in the north were calling us. We set off sailing across Isfjorden with Langřysund towards Ymerbukta. After disembarking on the iceedge, we left the sea ice behind us and there we were in the snowy mountains. We herd Selmas lonely howls on the first glacier. Selma was rescued from a nearby mountain top. Since his compainions has taken off into the unknown he joined our team. The next days we cruised along over white glaciers. Heavy snowfall an low clouds made us turn around on Monaccobreen. With many days left we explored Oscar II land. We found Ymerbukta as we left it with snow and ice enough for an easy ride back to the ice edge. A wonderfull journey!
